Noted in Passing: Dr. Richard Lindquist and Dr. Ron Oetting
Starting out in careers and life we often look to the greater knowledge and experience of others to guide and support us professionally along the way. How lucky to have such people and mentors as Dr. Richard (Link) Lindquist and Dr Ron Oetting, Floriculture Entomologists and Emeriti of The Ohio State University/OARDC (1969-2001 )and University of Georgia/Griffin (1978 - 2003), respectively, who always shared freely of their wisdom, time, and data with me, greenhouse producers, and others. Their names were quite familiar - often cited in my case - to any who sought answers (as most did) on identifying and managing greenhouse pests in the last 40 years. 'Popular, 'prolific,' 'efficient,' 'Influencer,' 'objective,' 'dedicated,' and 'recognized globally' are some of the accolades in tributes following their passing last year. I would easily add: kind, generous, thoughtful, humble, positive, and most certainly delightful to associate with. I also appreciated Link's ready, dry wit and Ron's remarkable life story from extremely modest beginnings.
