Holding Strategies When Spring Weather Is Not Agreeable

Wed, May 7th, 2025, created by Brian Whipker

Spring bedding plant sales are a weather dependent event. If the weather is rainy or cold, plants that are scheduled to be sold, might need to be held. There are fewer holding options at retail, but over 15 years ago, SePRO, the makers of A-Rest and Topflor, published their holding recipe for retail operations.  With spring upon us, thought it would be a good item to share in case it is needed.

SePRO Retail Holding Cocktail

Provides between 1 to 3 weeks of control and recommendations are customized for annuals and perennials.

Annuals: 4 to 8 ppm ancymidol (A-Rest/Abide) + 1,250 to 2,500 daminozide (B-Nine/Dazide)

Perennials: 10 to 15 ppm ancymidol (A-Rest/Abide) + 2,500 daminozide (B-Nine/Dazide)

Other holding strategies were also published in 2020 in e-GRO Alert 9.20, Tips on How to Hold Em.
